Twas a cold and misty night and the suits had long since packed up their briefcases and scuttled back to the suburbs. The city is left silent… and pretty darn spookey it is!
I’ve lived in London three years or so and although I must have crossed paths with this tube station many times I’d never actually got off to have a nosey. And what a little gem it is, and like most of the city of london seen in the evening after the business men and women have fled there desks and you have the streets to yourself it’s all the better.
The olde worlde fleet street with the flaming gas lanterns outside the main court building make it look as if it’s been plucked straight out of an old film (if you disregard all the cofee and sandwich shops) and a deturem down the side streets lead you into a rabbit warren of narrow alleys and cobbled court yards.

Just off Fleet Street is the Temple Church, made famous by the Da Vinci Code. The church was built by the Knights Templar in the 12th Century and has a very unusual style. Martin E.

Somerset House, built in 1547 for Edward Seymour, Duke of Somerset, is close to Temple. Redesigned in the 18th century by Sir William Chambers design as an object of national splendour, it housed public offices. Those who love naval history (like me!) will find this place special as it was the home of the Navy Board.
