Most global cities are places of stark contrasts between prosperity and poverty, are melting points for different cultural and ethnic influences, and they can be connecting or isolating. According to United Nations research in 2008 for the first time in history more than half of the world’s population (~3.3 billion) is living in urban areas and this is set to grow to 5 billion by 2030
We believe urbaneer provides a new framework for thinking about urban spaces and life in urban areas. At the heart of urbaneer are individuals creatively engaging with the urban environment – the interpretation of what it means to “creatively engage” is determined by the individual or groups involved and will continually change. Two core-ideas permeate this new framework:
- Cities as play-grounds
- Be a tourist in your own city
Urbaneer, therefore, is as much a participative art-form or a sport, as it is a new form of entertainment or urban tourism…
